Create Affinity. Build Confidence. Inspire and Connect.

The Medical Society of Virginia is pleased to offer the 2021 cohort of the Physician Leadership Institute. The Physician Leadership Institute (PLI) aims to give early-stage physician leaders greater personal and system awareness instilling confidence in managing the day to day and enhancing leadership behaviors in building consensus, inspiring trust, stimulating creativity, and managing change. Additionally, it offers a safe and supportive environment amongst a diverse cohort of peers from across the state to share ideas and engender meaningful discussions.

Combining what you know about patient-focused care and quality - with a desire to lead - will produce dramatic innovations that benefit you and your patients.

PLI is modeled after the renowned Claude Moore Leadership Institute that was delivered by MSV from 2006 through 2011. The 2021 program will include themes around:

  • Interpersonal Literacy - understanding self and others
Topics: Insights® Discovery Profile and Application ◊ Empathetic Listening ◊ Providing Effective Feedback and Managing Conflict

  • Systems Literacy – understanding surrounding systems
Topics: Health Care Finance 101 ◊ State Advocacy in Action ◊ ChangePro Simulation®

  • Innovation - leading process improvement
Topics: Innovation with Lighthouse Labs ◊ Introduction of Capstone Project and support

Why should I apply for PLI?

MSV’s previous leadership program graduated over 100 participants, many of whom advanced to leadership positions within their profession, including (but not limited to):

  • Chief Medical Officers at major health systems
  • Secretary of Health and Human Resources - Dan Carey, MD
