VR vaccination adventures for kids

MSVF Virtual Reality and Vaccines Program

Thanks to the support of a CDC Foundation Grant, the MSV Foundation is partnering with EVMS on a cutting-edge program to improve vaccination rates among children in Virginia. Through Virtual Reality (VR) games, kids under 12 who attend select vaccination clinics can play a fun, interactive game while they receive their injections. As kids engage with the VR, they may notice a reduction in anxiety, pain, and stress.

About the Program

Working with Dr. Jose Morey, Ad Astra Media, and Ever Medical Technologies, we have created two virtual reality games: Rocket Launch and Fantasy Adventure.

How it Works

  • Each game asks the patient to complete a task – launch the rocket or defeat the rock monster
  • Patients stay engaged with the game while the vaccine is administered, with the aim of reducing anxiety
  • Available in English and Spanish
