CHICAGO - The American Medical Association and about 170 medical groups sent the following letter to Seema Verma, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, regarding the administration’s proposals included in the 2019 Medicare physician payment rule.

Effective Dec. 15, 2016, the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) will clarify that its coverage of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) for patients with Type 1 and 2 diabetes as well as gestational diabetes includes reimbursement for the sensor, transmitter, and receiver used with the invasive monitor. This equipment will be supplied by a Medicaid Durable Medical Equipment (DME) provider and billed as a DME item. Codes to be billed for the DME equipment are:

The American Medical Association (AMA) issued a new Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code for influenza vaccine Flucelvax, CPT 90674, effective Aug. 1, 2016 for Medicare claims. However, Medicare claims processing systems will not be able to accept the new code until Jan. 1, 2017. Until this time, you may hold claims containing CPT 90674. Finally, if you bill institutional claims, note that code CPT 90674 will be implemented on Feb. 20, 2017.
