SafeHaven Business Development Executive

The Medical Society of Virginia is seeking a Business Development Executive to partner with SafeHaven Program leaders and resource providers to drive sales to meet the organizational and program revenue goals. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing an effective and innovative sales approach that expands MSV’s reach and strengthens client relationships across the state of Virginia and into new markets in other states. The Business Development Executive will collaborate with the SafeHaven team to actively seek business/sales opportunities in alignment with the strategic goals of the program and organization.

Major Duties:

  • Monitors emerging trends, specific legislative items, state and federal statutes and regulatory actions that impact physicians with suggested courses of action to consider.
  • Develops policy memos which outline key issues, proposes options with implications, recommends best course of action and viable alternatives.
  • Conducts research on policy priorities by reviewing laws, bills, budgets and regulations; publications and reports; and conferring with state agency officials, advocacy groups and other professional organizations.
  • Participates on physician and stakeholder task forces on public health priorities and other topics identified by the staff leadership, Board of Directors or House of Delegates.
  • Represents MSV at a variety of medical and health-related committees, work groups, task forces and boards.
  • Staffs the Virginia delegation to the American Medical Association (AMA).
  • Collaborates with the Government Affairs department in area(s) of concentration to conduct fact finding assignments, analyze policy, legislative, or regulatory initiatives and assist with development of relevant materials.
  • Assists with preparation and presentation to the MSV Board, Executive Committee and MSV House of Delegates.
  • Maintains, updates, and compiles relevant MSV positions and policies.
  • Provides support for MSV’s internal policymaking process, including research, analysis and member engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years or more of experience with health policy, or combination of graduate degree or post-graduate education
  • Ability to analyze and assess legislative and regulatory initiatives for their impact on medicine.
  • Knowledge of health care policy, health care workforce issues, and health care finance at the state and federal level, to include both regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures of Medicare, Medicaid, state and local health department operations, and physician regulatory and oversight bodies.
  • Knowledge of private sector health care policy and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and activity planning skills.
  • Ability to work independently on projects and complex tasks.
  • Some travel in-state as well as to state and national meetings.
  • Position includes evening, overnight and weekend responsibilities as assigned.
