Opioids
At the forefront of ending the opioid crisis
The Medical Society of Virginia and our members are at the forefront of ending the opioid crisis and helping those with addiction access the care they need.
Recognizing that physicians must play an integral role in solving the addiction crisis, MSV has worked tirelessly with many stakeholders across the Commonwealth to advocate for change.
Successes Include:
- Improving Medicaid coverage for addiction treatment
- Education for all health care providers on pain management and addiction
- Review and investigate unusual opioid prescriptions
- Creating prescribing regulations for pain management and addiction treatment
- Increasing the availability of naloxone, which can prevent overdose
- A harm reduction program that includes connecting people to treatment options
- Removing Medicare payment for pain satisfaction scores
