MSV's Advocacy Summit

Do you have an idea that can advance health care in Virginia? Are you facing an issue that affects the practice of medicine? Join us at the MSV Advocacy Summit!

The MSV Advocacy Summit is an opportunity for all physicians to propose ideas for MSV’s advocacy efforts, including MSV’s legislative agenda.

The Advocacy Summit was held on July 17, 2020.

Who can attend the Advocacy Summit?

Physicians, PAs, medical students, as well as local and specialty societies are invited to submit proposals and participate in the Advocacy Summit. The deadline to register for the Summit is midnight Monday July 13th to ensure all registrants receive login credentials and materials in a timely manner prior to the event. If you are interested in joining the Summit and were not able to register, contact a member of our team at

How do I submit a proposal?

The author of the proposal, or their designee, must be present at the Summit to present and answer questions about the proposal. A designee must be present during the digital meeting to answer questions, and only MSV members can submit proposals for consideration. The due date for proposals is Friday, June 19th, 2020.

2020 Changes to the Advocacy Process

We have adapted our advocacy process this year and ask that proposal submissions focus on public health issues and/or COVID-19 related topics. Some subject examples include but are not limited to proposals related to insurance reform, Telehealth and Telemedicine, prior authorization, liability protections, access issues, health equity, etc. Proposals submitted that are unrelated to the above parameters will be carried over for consideration to 2021 and resubmission is not required. If you submitted a proposal prior to COVID-19 for the 2020 advocacy process, you are welcome to re-submit your proposal with additions or edits given the parameters for this year. Please contact our team at if you have any questions.

What happens to the proposal once submitted?

Proposals will be reviewed and considered by MSV’s Specialty Advisory Council, Advocacy Committee and Board of Directors for further review. After the Summit, proposals will be posted on the MSV website for virtual commenting and feedback.

The MSV staff is here to help! For questions, please contact our Government Affairs Manager Kelsey Wilkinson at or (804) 377-1036.
