MSV Celebrates Doctors’ Day Honorees

The MSV received a record number of nominations this year. All of these physicians have made such a large impact, so we wanted to acknowledge everyone nominated. Take a moment to congratulate those who were recognized by their peers, friends, and family!

Dr. Stephen Caldwell

“Dr. Caldwell has been dedicated to caring for liver disease patients in Virginia for over 30 years. He has been known to call patients back with lab results in the evenings, on weekends, or even check in with patients and visit them at their rehab facilities after being in the hospital. He strives to bring new studies to our area that could potentially help patients with no other options. He is a true inspiration to others.”

Dr. Pradeep Pradhan

“Dr. Pradhan is an excellent physician, a community servant, who has volunteered for every opportunity to serve. He represents physicians in multiple leadership positions. He is responsible for the continuous survival of DPAM. He has served on the MSV Board for several years. He leads the Centra Medical group in Danville. He has shown exceptional leadership in face of COVID-19 pandemic. He has kept up with the latest information on the pandemic and contributed to the weekly provider meetings consistently. He is perfect example of a physician leader and inspiration to all.”

Dr. Hamid Taheri

“Dr. Taheri is kind, attentive, and goes beyond his responsibilities to take care of his patients.”

Dr. Leah Rowland

“Leah, while working full time as a pediatrician, also worked many evenings and weekends with the Virginia Beach School System to successfully get in person school restarted. She has also chaired the VA-AAP Task Force on School Reopening through which she has provided guidance and advice throughout the state to help efforts aimed at keeping kids safe and in school when possible.”

Dr. Leslie S. Kreisler

“Dr. Kreisler came out of retirement, reactivated his volunteer license, took the necessary training and now is actively vaccinating people through the Virginia Medical Reserve Corps.”

Dr. Heidi Best

“Dr. Best over 3 years ago took on the role of our first female president for Emergency Physicians of Tidewater that consists of approximately 100 physicians, 70 PAs, and 27 residents, all at the age of 37. Her leadership transformed our group into one that had a number of challenges to one of the highest performing groups in the state (especially through the pandemic), all while juggling taking care of her family including 3 young children! She has become a role model not only in leadership, but also helping breaking barriers of being a young woman in a male dominated landscape.”

Dr. Darren Witte

“Dr. Witte is well versed in both of his specialties, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, but this is not why I believe he is worthy of such recognition. He never makes you feel rushed and knows you and your issues. He makes it clear that his caring is part of a patient’s care. That is hard to find today.”

Dr. Shashi Ranganath

“Dr. Ranganath is an excellent and caring Pediatric Radiologist. She is chief of MAPMG/KP NOVA radiology, and has done an amazing job in navigating the department of radiology which performs about 2000 imaging studies per day thru the the many challenges of the pandemic this past year. She is truly an amazing woman that I am proud to know. Her leadership has truly been impressive this past year and she always has a smile on her face for her colleagues and patients. She is impressive!”

Dr. Kimberly Pasquale

“Dr. Pasquale advocates for her patients every day. She goes above and beyond for her patients and as a result was able to ensure the health and safety of the person who nominated her.”

Dr. Shriti Patel

“Doctor Patel is a human dynamo. She wears so many hats that it is mind boggling to me how she manages it all. She is the Program Director for our Psychiatry Residency. She is the Director of our very active ECT Service and is the Primary Investigator on a research protocol using ECT to treat agitation in patients with severe Autism. She sees Geriatric Patients in our office. She teaches M3 students and Residents for countless lectures. She volunteers at the EVMS-HOPES clinic for indigent and uninsured psychiatric patients. She mentors students interested in Psychiatry and helps guide them through the residency application process. Finally, she is a great mom, wife, and friend.”

Dr. Abraham Hardee

“Dr. Hardee serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the Community Health Center of the New River Valley. Dr. Hardee is the Associate Chair for Primary Care for Rural and Medically Underserved Populations at VCOM Virginia. Through the pandemic he has served marginalized and diverse patient populations. He has modeled physician community health and outreach opportunities through service in the Medical Reserve Corps, facilitating volunteerism with osteopathic medical students and supporting vaccination efforts for our regional community. Dr. Hardee has returned to the community of his childhood to contribute to those most in need and educate physicians to provide care for rural and underserved Appalachia.”

Dr. Hamid Okhravi

“Dr. Okhravi leads the Memory Consultation Clinic which is the only one of its kind in our area. His passion in caring for patients who have dementia and their families shines through in all of his interactions. Not only does have an amazing clinical acumen, he has transformed this passion into an active research enterprise, providing his patients with opportunities to participate in clinical research. He is also incredibly active providing educational sessions to not only his colleagues to teach them about dementia (as it is often underdiagnosed), but also for patients and their caregivers.”

Dr. Sandy Chung

“Sandy has gone above and beyond in expanding our practice (Fairfax Pediatric Associates) and leading it into new frontiers in the practice of pediatrics. She envisioned and implemented several unique and innovative approaches during COVID-19 to ensure the viability of the practice. Some of these include (in no particular order):

  • Direct to room, eliminating the use of the waiting room
  • Drive thru flu clinics, COVID-19 testing for children and adults
  • Telemedicine
  • Organizing offices (well and sick) to better serve our patients
  • Outdoor/tent location for visits
  • Purchasing an RV to do “Well visits on Wheels”
  • Working with FCHD to become a vaccinating site and setting up drive thru COVID-19 vaccine clinics

I am honored and privileged to have Sandy as my partner at Fairfax Pediatric Associates. She is committed to the health and welfare of children and their families. Sandy strives to delivery high quality healthcare and has found new ways to do so despite the myriad of challenges that this pandemic has caused.”
