Recognizing the Outstanding Efforts of Our Community

The Salute to Service Awards recognize outstanding efforts by physicians who have substantially improved patient care, both locally and abroad.

Nominations are open April through June each year, and announced in October.

Salute to Service Award Categories

Service to the Uninsured and Underserved

Presented to a physician who has dedicated his/her abilities to improving the health of the uninsured and underserved.

Service to the Profession

Presented to a physician whose work in the medical community has promoted the health care profession.

Service for Advancing Patient Safety and Quality Improvement

Presented to a physician who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to advancing patient safety and quality improvement.

Service by an Early Career Physician

Presented to an early career physician whose outstanding efforts have substantially improved patient care, either locally or abroad.
  • Candidate must be within the first ten years of his/her medical career in Virginia. The ten years begins after medical school, and the first day of residency.

Distinguished Medical School Faculty Service Award

Presented to a medical school faculty member who has done an outstanding job teaching fellows, residents or medical students, recognizes excellence as a clinician and has the dedication and drive to teach the next generation.
  • Candidate must be nominated by a medical student, fellow or resident.

Service by a Medical Student or Resident

Presented to a medical student or resident in Virginia whose outstanding efforts have substantially improved patient care, either locally or abroad.
Service awards on behalf of the Uninsured and Underserved and the Medical Profession are each accompanied by a $250 contribution to the charitable medical organization of the recipient’s choice courtesy of The Doctors Company.

The winner of the service award for Advancing Patient Safety and Quality Improvement will receive a $1,200 scholarship to attend a medical educational symposium of their choice courtesy of The Doctors Company

The winner of the Early Career Physician Service Award will receive a $1,000 gift to help him/her pay for any outstanding student loans, as well as a $250 contribution to the charitable medical organization of the recipient’s choice, courtesy of the former MSV Alliance.

The winner of the Distinguished Medical School Faculty Award will receive a $500 scholarship to attend a CME class or medical educational symposium of their choice, courtesy of The Doctors Company.

The winner of Medical Student or Resident Service Award will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a $250 contribution to the charitable medical organization of the recipient’s choice courtesy of the MSV Alliance.
