The Medical Society of Virginia Foundation (MSVF) is seeking a Director of Development to serve as an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting MSVF. This position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities for MSVF and the MSV Political Action Committee (PAC).  The Director of Development will help forge new relationships to build MSVF’s visibility, impact, and financial resources.  The Director of Development also will design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support for MSVF and the MSVPAC.

The Director of Development will expand and diversify MSVF’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new and existing initiatives.  In addition, the Director of Development will work closely with the board of directors and support board members as they take on a more active fundraising role. 

Major Duties:

  • Develop and execute MSVF’s annual fundraising plan
  • Develop and partner with government affairs staff to execute the MSVPAC annual fundraising plan
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations
  • Oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
  • Develop and execute a strategy for establishing an endowment for MSVF
  • Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors
  • Responsible for planning, oversight, & implementation of annual signature events – Physician’s Gala & Salute to Service Awards
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Actively reinforce organization culture
  • Work in partnership with key program development and program management staff

Required Qualifications:

  • BA (required),
  • 5  years + experience in development
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, supervision, administration and management skills
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes and a results-oriented culture
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and a positive attitude
