What is the legislative summit?
Each spring, MSV hosts a legislative summit where members present proposals that they would like to be considered as a part of the society’s legislative agenda. At the summit, these ideas are debated and discussed, allowing members to present multiple perspectives as to how MSV serves the interests of physicians and patients. No decisions on what to include in the agenda are made at the summit.
Who is invited to attend the summit?
All MSV members and local and specialty medical societies are invited to attend, to submit proposals and background materials, and to offer their opinions on the merits of the proposals.
What happens to the proposals after the legislative summit?
MSV’s legislative committee reviews this input and prioritizes the issues for possible legislative initiatives. The legislative committee then makes recommendations to the MSV board of directors and House of Delegates for their consideration in developing and approving the final MSV legislative agenda.
How do I submit a proposal?

Where will this year’s legislative summit be held?
The summit will be held at the Medical Society of Virginia in the second floor board room. We are located at 2924 Emerywood Parkway, Suite 300, Richmond, VA 23294. Click here for directions from Google maps.

How is the legislative summit different than the MSV annual meeting House of Delegates?
At the legislative summit, members submit proposals that help set the legislative agenda for the following year. For the MSV annual meeting House of Delegates, resolutions are submitted that set MSV’s standing policy which helps guide the board of directors in decisions that they make throughout the year.
Because I live so far from Richmond, I need to spend the night. Where should I stay?
The legislative summit should end by 5:30 PM so that any out-of-towners can drive back to their homes on the same day. However, if overnight accommodations should be needed, there are many available hotels nearby. For a list of lodging options and prices, please click here.
