Payback Prevention: Preparing for and Navigating Medicare and Medicaid Audits
May 2010
A seminar for physicians, administrators and practice managers.
Recent reports that Medicare and Medicaid lose billions of dollars each year to overpayments and fraud have led to the development of powerful audit programs directed to identify and reclaim funds that have been incorrectly paid to health care providers. In 2010, Virginia health care facilities and providers will be targeted under Medicare’s Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program and the Medicaid Integrity Program (MIP). The auditors will be checking on compliance with CMS rules, and will be closely evaluating coding and documentation to ensure that payments to providers are justified.
Join representatives from the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, the Medical Society of Virginia, and Hancock, Daniel, Johnson & Nagle, PC to learn strategies for protecting your organization’s reimbursement and:
- Gain knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid audit programs, with a focus on RAC, MIP, and Virginia Medicaid audits
- Learn proactive measures for preventing unnecessary risks, including how to conduct a self-audit
- Learn the issues and areas these programs will be targeting in Virginia
- Learn specific steps to minimize, avoid, discover and prepare for audit-related claims corrections
- Learn how to prepare for and respond to government and commercial carrier audits
- Understand the legal issues surrounding provider response to audit programs, including self-discovery of incorrect payments and the appeals process
