MSV wins national award for new Web site
26 August 2009
The Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) was recognized for its new Web site with a Gold Circle award by the ASAE and The Center for Association Leadership. The annual competition selects associations and nonprofit organizations that have demonstrated excellence in communication within a number of categories, including annual reports, magazines, newsletters, Web sites, blogs and podcasts.
MSV took home an Honorable Mention under General Association Web Site, Division B. This category recognizes an outstanding association overall Web site targeting the public, the association’s membership or other stakeholder group(s).
www.msv.org was unveiled in 2008 as an important element to the integration of MSV’s new brand, which reflects the association’s commitment to advocacy and making Virginia the best place for medicine. Other goals for the Web site include:
- Demonstration of value of MSV membership (through members-only Web functionality and information)
- Enhanced, user-friendly functionality and information architecture
- Integration with association management system (iMIS), allowing for seamless transactions such as event registration, join and renew
- Broaden members’ understanding of MSV and its entities
- Unification of all MSV entities under one Web site while providing individuality for each
“Being recognized by our association peers is an honor and testament to the commitment of our physician leadership and to the hard work of our Web team, said Rachel Mertz, MSV director of communications and marketing. “MSV.org not only provides extensive information, news and knowledge to physicians, our data shows it is already well-relied upon by our members, who are using it to take an active role in advocating for their profession.”
Entries were judged on clarity, creativity, design/layout, ease of use, writing style/quality, effective use of medium, overall content and technical quality/navigation.
Phase II of the award-winning Web site is making its debut this year in the form of social media, which facilities interaction and communication among members. Valuable content around key issues is being provided, such as the updates on national healthcare reform posted on twitter.com/MedSocietyVa. Up next: a Facebook page and MSV Connect, which will enable members to communicate in a secure, private forum around important issues such as tort reform.
The Medical Society of Virginia is the professional association for physicians in the commonwealth.
