Largest event in region for health care providers

Richmond, VA --The Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) is hosting a comprehensive, regional Health Information Technology (HIT) Summit that will include educational programs for current electronic health record (EHR) users and those considering EHR adoption. The event’s exhibition hall will provide health care providers and administrators a unique opportunity to do side-by-side comparisons and demonstrations of products from 18 leading health information technology providers. This event has been approved for continuing medical education credit.

The 2011 eligibility date for federal incentives is approaching and this event’s educational sessions will teach physicians, practice administrators and health care executives about the important elements of a successful electronic health record (EHR) system implementation including:
  • how to choose and negotiate the purchase of an EHR system;
  • how to earn federal incentives for EHR adoption and use;
  • what is “meaningful use” and how to achieve it;
  • how to partner with local health systems on health information exchange; and
  • how to use health information technology to measure quality
In addition, a panel discussion with representatives from the centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and private payers will include a special session during which participants can ask questions.

Presenters include Barbara Connors, D.O., M.P.H. chief medical officer, CMS Region 3; David Levin, M.D., vice president of medical information, Sentara ECare Health Network; David M. Levin, M.D., IT physician advisor, Kaiser Permanente; representatives from various health plans doing business in the greater D.C. area, and Jeffrey Daigrepont, senior vice president, the Coker Group.
