60,000 physicians receive troubling faxes from MultiPlan
16 February 2010 -- Update
In response to the recent faxes sent by MultiPlan to 60,000 physicians, the informational bulletin “
MultiPlan Recredentialing Activities” was created to answer physicians' questions and concerns regarding affiliation with MultiPlan.

MultiPlan recently sent faxes to 60,000 physicians across the country regarding recredentialing. These faxes were troubling in nature because their purpose is unclear, and they may have been sent to non-contracted physicians. The AMA has registered concern with MultiPlan regarding these faxes.
MultiPlan confirmed that these faxes were sent by Medversant, a group MultiPlan has contracted with to handle its recredentialing issues. MultiPlan claims that these faxes were intended to go to physicians: (1) who are contracted with MultiPlan or Private Healthcare Systems (PHCS); (2) who have not been recredentialed in the last three years; and (3) who have not responded to previous requests for credentialing information. However, other state medical societies have received numerous complaints from physicians who do not believe they are in either of these networks. Several of these physician complaints appear to be tied to previous MultiPlan or PHCS contracts through a dissolved physician hospital organization.
Physicians can visit the MultiPlan Web site at
www.multiplan.com/patients/ to determine whether they are listed in either the MultiPlan or PHCS provider directory.
