Share 5010 transition issues with AMA
17 February 2012
If you have experienced any claims or cash flow interruptions with Medicare or other issues relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) 5010 transition, complete a
complaint form, provided by the American Medical Association (AMA). The AMA will then forward all issues to Medicare for resolution to ensure that the 5010 transition goes as smoothly as possible. Physicians who are experiencing trouble with commercial or other payers may use AMA’s
"click and complain" process.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) granted a grace period for physicians’ compliance with the 5010 electronic transaction deadline until April 1. The AMA is urging CMS of the need for an advance payment policy to help alleviate situations where physicians are experiencing serious cash flow interruptions as a result of the transition. Visit the
AMA’s 5010 Web site for more information.
