Educate employees on RAC demand letters to ensure proper routing (HDJN Client Advisory)

26 April 2012
HDJN Client Advisory

Since Jan. 3, 2012, Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) have issued Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) demand letters. Previously, the provider would identify a designated “RAC contact person” to receive demand letters, but under the new process, the MAC addresses the demand letter to the targeted practice location without indicating an individual recipient. In response to this new method, organizations should educate all “front line” employees at all practice locations on what to do if a RAC demand letter is received to ensure a timely response to the demand letter and to preserve appeal rights.
