MSV leader is appointed to serve on statewide HIE initiative

22 December 2011

Sterling Ransone Jr., M.D., FAAFP, Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) vice president and MSV Political Action Committee (MSVPAC) chairman, was invited by Secretary of Health and Human Resources William A. Hazel Jr., M.D. to serve on the newly formed statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE) governing body. The statewide HIE will be a secure, confidential electronic system to support the exchange of patient records among health care providers in Virginia if the patient chooses to participate.

In November, the Virginia Department of Health awarded the statewide HIE to Community Health Alliance (CHA). As its first step, CHA is forming this independent governing body to set the overall strategic direction for the statewide HIE and guide the implementation of the technical and policy critical to a successful health information exchange.
