The Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) is a grassroots organization in the truest sense of the term; MSV leadership is selected from the membership by the membership. Leadership opportunities abound at the Society, from elected officers to executive committee members to directors and associate directors, among others.
The board of directors is comprised of a president, president elect, immediate former president, vice president, secretary-treasurer, speaker of the house and vice speaker. Each MSV district is led by directors and associate directors as well, as are the resident and student groups. There is also a 10-member executive committee and an AMA delegation made up of seven delegates along with alternate delegates.
The MSV House of Delegates is the policy making body of the Society, consisting of delegates elected by the component societies, component student societies, component resident physician sections, specialty sections, the hospital medical staff section, health systems and academic medical schools, as well as ex-officio members.
Typically, MSV has three board meetings a year as well as the annual meeting. MSV also participates in the AMA annual and interim meetings.
