Coordination of benefits

Physician practice administrators sometimes struggled with obtaining payment for physician services because some health plans will not forward payment on certain claims, citing “Coordination of Benefits” (COB) as the justification for failing to pay the claim. This happens when the covered member does not complete a COB questionnaire. The Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) was tasked by the Virginia Medical Group Managers Association (VMGMA) and the Richmond Medical Group Managers Association (RMGMA) to help them find relief for this problem, which requires extensive administrative work by physician practices to resolve.
