ICD-10

On January 15, 2009, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that starting on October 1, 2013, ICD-10 will replace ICD-9 as the HIPAA adopted code set for use in inpatient settings and inpatient hospital procedures as well as in physicians’ offices and other outpatient settings for coding diagnoses. The switch is being required because it is believed by HHS and many others that the current code set is outdated and that ICD-10 will offer better code specificity, although with this benefit comes high expenses and profound planning. This Knowledgebase offers an assortment of resources for your practice to become familiar with ICD-10 before the big change takes place.
